Over at Unframed, the blog for LACMA, they have been tracking the progress of Michael Heizer’s Levitated Mass. It will take eleven days to move the 340 ton megalith which constitutes the central component of the work from a quarry in Richmond, CA to the LACMA campus. That journey begins Tuesday, February 28, while the completed work is scheduled to open to the public in Fall 2012.

From El País. Mansilla was one-half of the architecture atelier Mansilla y Tuñon. The headline gave me an immediate flashback to the death in 2000 of Enric Miralles, one member of another famous team of Spanish architects: Pinós-Miralles. As mentioned in the article, there is a strange connection in that Mansilla was in Barcelona for the presentation of a book about Miralles work.
